Defenseman Mike Van Ryn to sit out season

06/30/2010 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that defenseman Mike Van Ryn has decided not to play next season.

Van Ryn, 31, missed the entire 2009-10 campaign after undergoing an osteotomy on his left knee last October. The re-alignment procedure was similar to the one former Red Wings' captain Steve Yzerman underwent in 2002 and is normally reserved for the elderly.

Originally taken in the first round (26th overall) by New Jersey in the 1998 draft, the London, Ontario, native has registered 30 goals and 99 assists in 353 career games with the Blues, Panthers and Maple Leafs.
