Scherzer dominant as Tigers top O's

Baseball Betting Lines

07/07/2010 - Detroit, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Max Scherzer threw seven solid innings as the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-2 win.

Scherzer (6-6) retired the first 11 batters he faced and was charged with one run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts to win his fourth game in his last five starts.

Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen and Brandon Inge each drove in a run while Danny Worth added his first career homer for the Tigers, who have won five of their last six.

Adam Jones scored both runs while Brad Bergesen (3-6) ran his winless streak to nine outings as he was charged with four runs on 11 hits with three walks and three strikeouts over six-plus innings for the Orioles, who have dropped six of seven.

Austin Jackson led off the Detroit first with a double, moved to third on Johnny Damon's sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate on Ordonez's groundout to give the team a 1-0 lead.

Worth led off the third by clubbing an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left.

Scherzer cruised through the first three innings as he set down all nine batters, striking out five, and retired the first two O's in the fourth, but Nick Markakis beat out an infield single down the third base line. Ty Wigginton, though, hit into a fielder's choice to end the frame.

Detroit loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk in the fourth, but it came with two outs and Damon grounded out to end the threat.

With two outs in the fifth, Felix Pie roped a triple into the right field corner, but Josh Bell fouled out on the first pitch he saw to end the inning for the Orioles.

The Tigers doubled their lead in the fifth as Brennan Boesch hit a two-out double, came home to score on Guillen's single and Inge followed with an RBI double for a 4-0 lead.

The Orioles got onto the scoreboard in the seventh as Jones led off with a double and came home when Matt Wieters singled to center that saw Jackson misplay the ball.

Jones led off the ninth with a triple and, after Phil Coke took the mound, came home when Wieters followed with a sac fly to right. Coke, though, got Pie to pop out and pinch-hitter Jake Fox to look at strike three for his first save of the season.
