Neither side scored in the middle stanza with Columbus having eight shots on net and Dallas seven.
Columbus evened the score in the third period when Malhotra received a pass at the top of the left circle and blasted a slap shot through the pads of Smith with 6:57 left in regulation.

Terrell Owens could return for Cowboys next game
